In the world of skincare, few names carry the weight of tradition, expertise, and luxury quite like ILONA Beauty. Founded on the principles of European skincare excellence, this family-run business has flourished for over five decades, blending time-honored techniques with modern innovation. Today, Robert Makari, CEO and son of the founders, carries forward the vision of his parents while embracing new opportunities for growth and evolution.

From Humble Beginnings to National Recognition

The story of ILONA Beauty began with two Hungarian immigrants who, after meeting in New Jersey, embarked on a journey to create something truly special. Their first skincare salon opened in Northern New Jersey, but in 1971, they decided to take a leap of faith and relocate to Denver—a decision that would shape the future of their company.

“Denver was a cow town back then, but for whatever reason, they chose it,” Makari recalls. “And this is where they decided to expand.”

Through dedication and an unwavering commitment to quality, ILONA of Hungary, the company’s original name, quickly became a household name, celebrated for its luxurious skincare salons and meticulously crafted products. The demand grew beyond Denver, prompting expansion into Houston, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and Orange County. At its peak, Ilona was synonymous with prestige, offering the finest skincare services and products to clients nationwide.

A Family Business at Its Core

Makari’s involvement in the company was inevitable—he grew up immersed in the world of skincare, absorbing knowledge from his parents at the dinner table, during product testing, and even while folding packaging boxes in front of the television.

“This company and this industry are just ingrained in me,” he shares. “My mother personally trained our estheticians, ensuring they had not only the technical skills but also the right temperament for such a close client relationship.”

His mother’s hands-on approach extended beyond training. She was deeply involved in product formulation, testing every cream and serum before they reached customers.

“She used to say, ‘Any product that has touched your skin from ILONA has also touched mine,'” Makari recalls. “That’s how committed she was.”

Embracing Change and Expanding Horizons

While ILONA Beauty has long been known for its luxurious offerings, Makari saw the potential to expand beyond in-person services. He spearheaded a shift toward product distribution, recognizing the growing demand from clients across the United States, Canada, and the European Union. This evolution led to the rebrand, simplifying the name to ILONA Beauty and modernizing packaging, formulations, and supply chains.

“We started creating new brands tailored to today’s audience, focusing on clean and natural beauty,” Makari explains. “Two years ago, we launched Purete, which is available on Amazon.”

With a deep appreciation for both the artistry and science behind skincare, Makari is excited about the endless possibilities that modern technology and globalization provide. “From chemists to ingredients to the entire supply chain—everything is truly global now. My parents didn’t have that back then.”

Working with Jeff and Lina at Redstone has been incredible. If I have an issue, I can text Lina and get a response right away. That level of familiarity and support is invaluable. When you walk into Redstone, you see the same people every time. They know your name. That personal touch is everything.

The Importance of Community and Personal Connections

As the company grew, so did its financial needs. Makari quickly realized that the right banking partner could make a meaningful difference in a small business’s success.

“Money is money, whether it comes from a big bank or a local one,” he says. “But the way that money is delivered makes all the difference.”

After experiencing the inefficiencies of larger financial institutions, Makari sought a banking partner that reflected ILONA Beauty’s own values—personalized service, strong relationships, and a customer-first approach. That search led him to Redstone Bank.

“Working with Jeff Walker and Lina Lee at Redstone in Centennial has been incredible. I have their cell phone numbers. If I have an issue, I can text Lina and get a response right away,” he shares. “That level of familiarity and support is invaluable.”

For Makari, Redstone Bank embodies the same ethos that ILONA Beauty has upheld for decades—consistency, trust, and a commitment to excellence. “When you walk into Redstone, you see the same people every time. They know your name. That personal touch is everything.”

Looking to the Future

Despite its long-standing history, ILONA Beauty remains a hidden gem to many—a fact that Makari views as an advantage. “We have years of knowledge, experience, and expertise, but we also understand the need to evolve, grow, and change.”

He envisions ILONA Beauty as both a luxury and high-tech brand, one that blends the rich traditions of European skincare with cutting-edge advancements. “I want people to touch or smell an Ilona product and instantly recognize its quality, even before they see the name.”

With a deep respect for its heritage and an eye toward the future, ILONA Beauty continues to redefine excellence in the skincare industry—one meticulously crafted product at a time.
